It's a new month, and some of you have a little extra time due to it being Independence Day in the states, so I am opening another drabble tree. As always, anyone who reads this is welcome to contribute, and I will respond to every drabble posted with one of my own.

I recently had cause to meet up with someone from my past, a lover of my teen-age fancy. He was so much older then, a man, subject to my girlish affections. Our age difference, now, is very little in the scheme of things.

Of course, it was not insurmountable then, either. My wisdom outstripped my age, and sometimes even his. He much disliked the times when I let the artifice drop and turned that knowledge on him. It is a skill I have since perfected, and it still thrills me to turn it on the unwary.

I pinned him before me, with my gaze, a small, secret smile curving at my lips. I painted him the truth with my husky, child-like voice, and teased him with the description of his folly.

He turned the conversation back on me. "You think you know, but that was a long time ago. What makes you so sure you know me so well?"

"Little or nothing, I suppose, but what did Lolita care about a man's opinion, beyond that of her ability to manipulate it?" I raised one eyebrow in silent challenge and let the side of my mouth turn up in a teasing smile.


Smile would now be the first word of the drabble on any topic for whoever chooses to respond to this.

His grandmother had taught him that it was rude to show up at someone's house empty handed. So, when he accepted Stella's invitation to brunch, his first thought was to pick up some bagels from the local bakery - maybe, some fresh danishes. He certainly hadn't set out to buy her flowers.

Stella could be prickly about certain things. Food was always good - the more exotic the better. Wine was acceptable. Flowers entered territory that could quickly get dangerous, but as soon as he caught a glimpse of the orchid, he knew that he would get it for her. It was beautiful and exotic, and it reminded him of Stella, and the grace and strength she hid beneath the appearance of fragility. Stella would be the first to protest any comparisons to delicate flowers, but when the proprietor caught his interest and began gushing about their qualities, the sense of rightness settled in his chest. The guy said orchids represented love, beauty, wisdom, and thoughtfulness. That was Stella to a T.

He bought the flower and had it wrapped, but he made sure that he didn't forget the pastries. He might like to live dangerously, but he wasn't stupid.


Stupid would now be the first word of the drabble on any topic for whoever chooses to respond to this.

1)To Lose Control
Angelus came out to play in 'Eternity', what does that mean for Cordelia and Angel?
Well, it's probably not one of my best, but it's one of the first stories that I had a major attachment to, flaws and all. I loved playing with this dynamic, and even did it again, in the next story. (Pre-livejournal story on my archive)

2)Faded Prayers
Cordelia waits for Angelus and reflects on what has happened and what is to come. (Post-Awakening.)
This was a challenge for YGTS? and was probably not at all what was expected. I don't remember the whole prompt, but it was something about sushi, and this ep, having just aired was very prominently on my mind. It's dark and twisted, but hopeful, and I am really proud of the imagery, and loved the way it just flowed. (Pre-livejournal story on my archive)

3)The Home Series (Pts 1, 2 & 3)
This is a Riley/Xander series, and made me seriously fall for that (too rare)pairing. I haven't put out another story in this for years, but have at least two more on my hard drive that I need to finish. It started out just as an excuse to get them together and have sex, and the fact that I didn't dislike Riley, but hated him paired with Buffy. I still smile when I think of this series. 4)Coke and Sympathy [ lj || archive ]
Xander and Tara find comfort with each other.
Another unusual pairing, and even though Tara was canonically gay, and I got some flack about writing her in a het relationship, I think this works, becuase it was about comfort and understanding, and less about the sex (which is a large part of the story nonetheless). Another YGTS? Challenge, and I really enjoyed writing for that group.

5)Painting My Heart [ lj || archive ]
Loving would be easy if your colors were like my dreams. (Roswell, Michael Guerin/Liz Parker, NC-17)
This was my first foray into the Roswell/polar fandom, and the support that I received for it was amazing, and generated several of the friends that are now on my flist. I love the imagery on this, and the story that it tells. I fell in love with this pairing while writing this story.

And, wow, four of the five are BtVS, none are new than a few years old, and it's kind of sad for me. I do have other stories that could be favorites, but never quite made it to the level of these, or were unfinished. This is almost enough to inspire me to write more and better stories, even though I am going through a dry spell right now...

These are two paired drabbles, 100 words per prompt, the first from Cameron's point of view, the second from House's. I actually got quite a bit of writing done yesterday and am doing the editing stuff today to finish them up. I'm not sure if I'll post a bit at a time, or a whole bunch. I am of two minds. If I hold stuff back, I'll have stuff to post for several days, or if I post it all, maybe I'll be inspired to write more. I'm just proud of myself for getting as much done as I did.

In addition to these two drabbles, I have six more mini-ficlets (one of which I had half scribbled down ahead of time), a Cordelia/Angel fic I'll probabaly hold onto until the 14th, when I have to post for winter_of_angel, a strange Harry Potter piece that I really want to post, and some more work on a Mac/Danny/Stella piece for stellaluna_.
