Well, the time has come. After five challenges at atlantis_lvw, I have been eliminated. It really was fun while it lasted, and except for the week I used my opt-out (during my miscarriage) I managed to write each week, according to the theme and limits of the challenge. When the rest of his life was overwhelming - deafening him with slamming doors, drunken yelling, and Max's voice, in his head, telling him how to be and who to be - and he didn't think he could go one more second without screaming, Michael fled here to enjoy the silence and just be himself.

Gil understood faith and the comfort it could provide. He had studied many different belief systems, trying to find it for himself. In the end, he found no comfort in any of them, because none of them had a solid foundation of tangible evidence. Gil believed in science, in evidence, in proof; he wasn't one to have faith. Faith required you to believe even when there was no proof available.

Maybe, that's why he searched so hard for the truth, and didn't rest until he had found it. He didn't allow himself to stop and find comfort along the way.
