Welcome one and all to this week's Final Word Drabble Challenge, whether you are here as players of the game new to my journal, or as readers of my journal new to the game. My friends may be familiar with the drabble trees that I host, except this is a little different, instead of giving you the first word, I give you the LAST, and everyone writes using the same word, instead of responding to another drabble.

The final twist is that whoever responds first gets to host The Final Word Drabble Challenge the next week, and pick the new prompt. This is my first turn as host, and as a caveat, anyone on my friends list who wants to play but not host, can opt to pass, and either I, or the next eligible person in line will do the honors.

Last Week's Challenge


dickgloucester started the Final Word Drabble Challenge. The rules are simple. I'll give you a one-word prompt. It has to be the final word of the drabble (100 word fic) you post in response in my comments section. As many people as feel the urge can respond. Any rating, any Potterverse pairing/situation ... anything that grabs your muse... (It's usually Hermione and/or Snape centered, but that is not at all required - ANY HP character or pairing is game.) Time limit of a week; the first person to post their drabble gets to choose the word for the next round and host the gathering at their LJ.


This week's prompt is the word "light".

I have a bunch of drabbles to post for my 100quills claim, but I like to have at least one slightly longer piece, or at least half a dozen drabbles in a community post. So, this is your opportunity to get a drabble or short fic of your choice written.

The rules are as follows... must be Harry Potter (character, gen) or Harry/?, as my claim is for the Harry as a character. I will write slash, het or gen, and in a limited possibility of threesomes. (If you request a threesome, I reserve the right to write either pairing instead of the threesome, though I will give it a shot.) I will try to write minor characters, or characters I haven't written before, if you don't get to picky about your idea of their characterization. I will do my best to humor just about everyone.

So, give me a character and a (short) prompt in the next few hours, and I will try to write it tonight.

She didn't know what to say to him when he looked up at her with those wide, bright eyes, as if she could make everything all right. Temperance knew better than anyone that things didn't always turn out right in the end, and things sometimes happened to the people that you loved, no matter how hard you wished it wasn't so. Still, she realized that you couldn't explain things like that to a four year old, even when you couldn't bring yourself to tell an awkward lie. She didn't know for sure that Booth was going to be all right.



When Tempe was little, her mother had a simple answer for bad days, scraped knees, and bullies. Cookies, hot from the oven, and a glass of milk, always made things look better. She wasn't Parker's mother, and Booth's injury was a lot worse than a scraped knee, but she wanted to make him this little boy, who clung to her hand like a lifeline, feel better. She didn't bake, but there was a vending machine down the hall. Two dollars and a quarter later, she held Parker's hand and shared his cookies and milk. Maybe, it would be all right.

I recently had cause to meet up with someone from my past, a lover of my teen-age fancy. He was so much older then, a man, subject to my girlish affections. Our age difference, now, is very little in the scheme of things.

Of course, it was not insurmountable then, either. My wisdom outstripped my age, and sometimes even his. He much disliked the times when I let the artifice drop and turned that knowledge on him. It is a skill I have since perfected, and it still thrills me to turn it on the unwary.

I pinned him before me, with my gaze, a small, secret smile curving at my lips. I painted him the truth with my husky, child-like voice, and teased him with the description of his folly.

He turned the conversation back on me. "You think you know, but that was a long time ago. What makes you so sure you know me so well?"

"Little or nothing, I suppose, but what did Lolita care about a man's opinion, beyond that of her ability to manipulate it?" I raised one eyebrow in silent challenge and let the side of my mouth turn up in a teasing smile.

It seems lately that there are a lot of posts where people are claiming their kink, that bullet-proof thing that allows them to sift through countess so-so, or even bad stories, for the chance that someone will get it right.

Personally, I'm a many flavours kind of girl (tell me you're not surprised). Of course, to me, the absolute best kink in the world is taken the fandom tropes and cliches and seeing them turned into something fresh and unusual, while remaining remarkably in character. I want to be surprized and I want to believe it. That sounds remarkable pompous of me, though; doesn't it?

Ok, in my new found spirit of 'sharing' (which I will tell you about at some later date), I'll admit that I love Bonding fics. Forced bonds, accidental bonds, forced intimacy and all the issues and pleasures that come from it. My HGSS NaNoWriMo project from a few years back was one, called Fever Bound. My (secret) favorite type of Harlequin romances are marriages of convenience, where the couple ends up falling in love with each other despite their intentions, and there is a ton of angst and misunderstandings because of it, until the happily ever after bit.

The point of this... I want to write a Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy story involving some aspect of a reluctant relationship, but I don't know for sure what kind. I'm considering a Veela fic, as it does seem customary for every author of this pairing to write one, but I wonder what would be my original take on it, as this is definitely a fandom cliche that often borrows it's mythology wholesale from 'Magnetic Attraction' by Frizzy, without ever realizing the source.

Draco as a werewolf is less often done, but I am working on another story with another character and thing it would be too confusing to tackle this issue twice. Besides, I think my Werewolf!Draco would just be too broken right now.

There's the Vampire possibility, but I think that I would rather write that as a one-shot rather than a long fic, though it could be workable.

I'm not in any hurry to do another mPreg, as I have a HPDM mPreg in progress. Of course, that is Harry as the 'mum,' I could do Draco as the one who gets himself knocked up.

(ooh, idea - hold on while I jot that down...)

So, as indicated by the title of this post, if you have any interest in Harry Potter slash, I'd love to hear your ideas of what I should write, after all, you guys are the ones who'll get to read it. (I may even turn extraneous suggestions into ficlets for your pleasure.)

His overwhelming urge to fidget and demand Severus' attention suddenly fled as he realized that his only option was to submit. He would wait until Severus was ready to release him. I used to run a website called 'Impulsive' which was for all slash pairings of Harry Potter (the character, not the pairing. I don't read much het in the fandom, unless it involves Hermione, and almost no femslash, though I don't know why. I like a large range of slash, but mostly just Harry.

I like Harry/Snape best. I get an urge for Harry/Draco from time to time, and I like Harry with the various Weasley brothers (except Ron, except for trio!fic, though I have now written this pairing). I also like Harry/Neville, though I think that's mostly the quality of the writing I have found. (Neville, when done well is quite intriguing - try this Charlie/Neville story. Also there was a Neville FQF a few years ago that produced a memorable HP/NL story that involved virginity and the thorns of a plant that induced the need to shag. It was much better than my lousy description.)

Anyway, in other fandoms, I've found communities dedicated to just one character, and I was wondering if one of this focus existed, or if anyone would be interested in me reestablishing one if there wasn't (meaning Harry/m fic exclusively, with the occasional art piece, if anyone is interested)?

That being said, I've got to finish typing up the last story that I wrote for HP QFAC, and get it up this weekend. I'd really appreciate any recs you guys have for these pairings, any length, style, even your own stories. I am in a mood to bury myself in some reading, and I'll need something to do in between going cross-eyed coding the database for Heliopolis, and doing all of my various uploads tomorrow. Recc me some fic, please.
